- Simon Corneille -

Biography

At the eccentric border between jazz and electro, the young saxophonist, Simon Corneille, develops his spontaneous and refreshing universe of stylistic music. With his alto saxophone, he reveals a soft and delicate sound while keeping an immense and powerful energy. Strongly influenced in his childhood by P. Desmond, C. Adderley, S. Getz, and L. Konitz, he naturally studied in France Jazz and its history. Today, Simon develops a new-age artistic style, inspired by other cultures and genre such as electro, Indian and classical music. Also on the baritone saxophone, he combines an equally lyrical style with a immensely deep warm sound effect.

After studying classical music in Nantes, he discovered jazz and continued his studies in Lyon. At the age of 20, he joined the Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP) in the jazz and improvised music department directed by Riccardo Del Fra. He surrounds himself with people as ambitious as him in finding new approaches to jazz, inspired by contemporary rock and electronic music, sparking a new wave of music.

Through his compositions, he draws attention to topics of societies and sheds light on current events. It thus combines an affirmed presence through the themes with the expressiveness of each one in the improvisations. He likes working different ways to build his pieces and make them evolve organically. His last musical experience when he moved to Helsinki for four months, provided him with a state-of-the-art source of inspiration through the hybrid landscapes between city and nature.

As a fan of the alto saxophone, baritone and bass clarinet, he multiplies the experiments in various Parisian bands, including the ONJ Youth Orchestra (French National Jazz Orchestra co-directed by François Jeanneau, Jean-Charles Richard and Frédéric Maurin) .

Currently, Simon is working on several duet projects including Florian Colombet, classical guitarist; his brother Adrien Corneille, 3D animation videast. In the near future, he wishes to bring together several friends and fellow artists within a cooperative label with an identity and an original artistic direction.

He is currently studying to take the state exam of music teacher at the CNSMD in Paris and he develops his teaching activities in St-Mandé, Villeneuve-le-Roi and Arpajon, whether for saxophone and clarinet lessons, ensemble lessons and music theory.
